Sheila’s Bat Mitzvah

BAT MITZVAH

The best way to describe Sheila’s Bar Mitzva is by sharing her nice posting of th event.

“What an incredible day this was! I am so proud of my auntie who at 86 yrs old decided to do something most12 and 13 yr old girls and boys do as part as their Jewish education and heritage.

Along with 3 other elder women she was Bat Mitzvah’d. This is a traditional coming of age ritual, a milestone in what normally takes place as a young girl. It is seen as a religious adulthood (she’s a bit late for the party so to speak on that note) and is now responsible for her actions (she’s already nailed this part)

This ceremony wasn’t widely recognized for females until the 1960’s although it began for girls in the 1920’s.

She spent months learning to read Hebrew, a language she grew up listening to but was never taught. Surrounded by family, her son, her sister, her nieces, her great nephew and great niece in law and friends made for one of the best family events.

She may be 86 but today she got to be that 12-year-old girl and showed her family, friends and an entire congregation that age is just a number. It doesn’t define you!

Mazel Tov! We are all so very proud of you and thrilled to have been able to share this with you today!”
